Minister’s Speech -The Honourable Ayanna Webster-Roy
To all the children and youth of Trinidad and Tobago, it is my pleasure to wish you happy Children and Youth Day of the Americas. Today, June 9th, 2017 has been declared by the Inter-American Children’s Institute as a period to reflect on the situation of children and youth in our region. It gives me great pleasure to share with you, the Office of the Prime Minister’s (Gender and Child Affairs) third Children Who Inspire publication. As a Minister, mother and wife, it brings me great pride and joy to witness and share such motivating stories of resilience, leadership and entrepreneurship among the nation’s children and youth.
Did you know that children and youth make up 40 percent of the region's population? That means that you are of significant value to our nation and you will be the future builders of our society. Therefore, we at the Office of the Prime Minister (Gender and Child Affairs) are committed to ensuring that your rights are being upheld and your inspirational stories are being shared.
It is my deep desire to create an environment that is safe, healthy and happy for all children and youth. As a result, I urge parents, children and youth to work together to end violence and bullying in our nation.
My hope is that as you read these inspiring stories from our nation’s children and youth, that you will pursue your passions fearlessly and you will not allow anyone to put limitations on your dreams. I am encouraging all children and youth to share your inspiring story with me (in no more than 150 words) by sending them via e-mail to GCA_Child@gov.tt
