Universal Children’s Day: Press Release

Port-of-Spain: The Office of the Prime Minister (Gender and Child Affairs) in commemoration of Universal Children’s Day launched two publications entitled My Book of Rights and Responsibilities and Reach Out: A Guide to Child Friendly Services on Friday 18th November, 2016 at Port-of-Spain City Hall.

The Office of the Prime Minister (Gender and Child Affairs) recognizes that children are in need of our care, support and attention to reach their fullest potential. During the launch, the Honorable Ayanna Webster-Roy, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister reaffirmed Government’s commitment to work towards ensuring that no child is forced to live a life of violence, abuse, exploitation and discrimination. With this in mind, the two publications are geared towards educating children, parents and key stakeholder on child related services and their rights. My Book of Rights and Responsibilities seek to teach children about all the rights they are entitled to as a child, and associated responsibilities. Likewise, the Reach Out: A Guide to Child Friendly Services has over 70 child related organizations that provide information on health services, projects, education, social activities and social support services.

It was an unforgettable morning, as over two hundred students were inspired by Mr. Ajamu Crosby and Ms. Shanntol Ince who motivated the group by their touching testimonies of triumph. Students were also treated to entertainment from Mr. Jabari Hosten on our national instrument and Ms. Aliyah Hinds, a power house on the microphone.

The Ministry extends special thanks to Boomerang Caterers, Port-of-Spain City Hall, Kiss Baking Company, Movietowne and Holiday Snacks who were our sponsors.
