Guidelines to access grant funding for Scholarship/Training
1) The Applicant MUST meet the following criteria:
a) Be 18 years and over;
b) Be a citizen/resident of Trinidad and Tobago, in accordance with the Immigration Act;
c) Be a victim/survivor of domestic violence or gender-based violence;
d) Apply for and be accepted into a recognised, certifiable training programme or educational institution that will equip them with the necessary skills to set up a micro/small business;
e) Not be currently employed in any capacity; and
f) Not be a previous beneficiary, or be awaiting the outcome of an application for a similar service from another Ministry/agency.
i) Notwithstanding (e) above, an Applicant may be self-employed and desirous of expanding to ensure sustainability and profitability of their business enterprise. In this case, the Applicant shall demonstrate how the training will facilitate the expansion of the business;
ii) Funding for the field of study must not be otherwise available for free to the Applicant from sources such as the Ministry of Education (GATE, and other state or private enterprise);
iii) Where an NGO/CBO is providing the training identified by the Applicant, the Applicant may be referred for such training. No funding will be provided; and
iv) An Applicant can only access this grant ONCE.
2) Submission and processing of application:
a) Application forms must be completed and submitted to the Chair of the Grants Review Committee with all the supporting documents outlined in the
application checklist below.
b) The application will be reviewed and evaluated by the Grants Review Committee based on the above outlined criteria and its alignment with the
programme’s goals, potential for success, and overall potential impact on the applicant’s empowerment and economic independence.
c) The grant funding, valued at a maximum of $10,000, shall be used to cover the cost of tuition, course material, and equipment (books, computers, etc.) to be used during training.
d) Participants must provide progress reports on education/training pursuits periodically, as agreed, as well as proof of completion.
3) Successful applicants must:
a) Enter into legal agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the grant funding;
b) Comply with the terms and conditions of the legal agreement; and
c) Adhere to reporting requirements, providing progress report(s) on their education/training pursuits periodically, as agreed, as well as proof of completion.
4) Application Checklist:
- Completed Application Form
- Copy of National Identification
- Proof of Address (dated no more than three months from the date of application
- Acceptance letter from institution or proof of enrolment
